nerdy

-Quinn's babysitter is taking all three kids to COSI today.  It's our local science museum.  They have a membership and go fairly regularly.  They have an area just for kids under 5 years old.  It seems like a lot of fun.  Hopefully everyone is on their best behavior.  All the kids have snotty noses, so the COSI staff are going to have to come through with bleach once they are gone.  I do feel a little nervous about having Quinn driven across town in a carseat that I've never seen.  I just need to get over it, but I suppose it is my prerogative as a mom to worry.

-Sleep was BAD last night.  We are all sick.  Quinn alternated between being whiny/wanting to be held and snoring like an old man.  There was some sort of reverberating snot thing that wouldn't come out or go in.  She kept snacking on boob and falling asleep and then waking up like I put her on a hot skillet when I put her back in her PnP.  I have NO patience when I am tired.  Megan was pretty congested as well and has started coughing.  It was all bad from my perspective.  We all fell asleep again* around 3 and so I let us sleep in a tad this morning to recover.

-Grandma is in a step-down unit at the hospital.  She's been getting dialysis almost every day.  They have been swearing they were going to transfer her to a hospital that can do the heart procedure that she needs "tomorrow" since, like, Saturday.  She has been to weak, etc. and it keeps getting pushed back.  I think it really might happen tomorrow.
UTA:  Just talked to mom.  grandma had a really bad day.  She got 2 units of blood with her dialysis today.  The surgery is being put off until Monday.  Mom put grandma on the phone for a minute and I could barely understand what she was saying other than "don't worry about us" and "wish I could see that baby."

-All this talk of dogs, and dachshunds in particular, around the blogosphere today has started lighting the fire under my butt to get mom's web page updated.  She has printed a zillion and a half holiday cards that she wants me to set up a little online sales dealy for.  The picture is based on a painting from a local artist.  It's a little santa with a dachshund.  I think a certain genre of people will really like it.

That not-so-fresh feeling

hope
You know how we've been cat-sitting and not living at our own house for that past month? Well, maybe you don't because I'm not sure I've mentioned it, but I think The Girl has. Anywho... last night was our last night!!! No more packing everything we own back and forth every day ('cause we still have to go home every day 'cause OUR cats need love too)! Everything has been pretty ok with minimal forgotten stuff issues. Sadly this morning, however, we realized that the clothes basket we took home yesterday had almost all of my clothes in it. Ooops. I have a clean shirt and a clean-enough bra. Sadly the pants I have on are the ones I had on yesterday and the undies came out of the clothes pile. Not really sure what day they are from, but they appeared not so bad this morning. I don't think anyone has noticed that I've worn the same pants two days in a row. I work for the state. Who would care anyway?

The child care thing was great. They were just who I hoped they would be. They have a cutie (if rambunctious) little boy named Ezra (how about that [info]somerandomchic?!?) and a nice place for kids to be. They have a baby-gated outside area and an area with a padded floor in the basement. They just seemed like nice folks. Our friend from work will be starting in a couple of weeks. Megan is going to take Quinn over a couple of times to visit before the actual start day.

Websites to visit that you might like if you have stuff you'd like to swap out for other stuff. I just found these today. All free or cheap!:

http://www.zunafish.com
http://www.paperbackswap.com
http://www.switchdiscs.com

Edited to add: Now that I've messed around with the three sites, the paperback one seems to be the easiest and free-est. In the zuma one, people have to agree to swap with you.

Quinn Care

Quinn us
We are going in a couple of hours to meet potential child care folks. They have a toddler of their own and are looking to take in 1 or 2 more kids. It seems like the perfect situation. It is even a lesbian household! I like the idea of Quinn being exposed to other 2 mom households. I know she is probably too tiny for that to matter too much yet, but it still makes me happy. The only drawback is that it is in the opposite direction from Ohio State. It isn't terribly far away, but it certainly isn't "on the way to work" for Megan.

A friend of ours met with them on Saturday and really liked them, so I'm feeling pretty positive about it. I really want to just love them so that I can stop stressing about the whole child care issue and start thinking "in September, Quinn is going to start going to those nice people's house."

In other news, for those of you who don't obsessively read my comments (and why would you anyway?), my domperidone arrived! Yay for that! We also bit the bullet and bought a (used) professional* breast pump from Ebay. We decided that it was worth it to have and that we could re-sell it at some point and probably not take much of a loss.

*The term "professional" cracks me up. It leads one to believe that someone is pumping as their job. Hmm.. Ok, so maybe it is appropriate...
